they got it right
when they wrote Smoke Signals
it really showed the reality of Natives
the movie Skins
the humor & story hit home with me
and Robert Redford was right
Leonard Peltier should be set free
hollywood skin
a movie can never display
the real nature of an American Native
how good people
who sing & play their music
the land we lived off of
how we give thanks to GOD above
today we celebrate
our dances at summer pow wows
we still speak in our Native tongues
we pay respect to those before us
we give Indian names
that mean something to our culture
we're proud & we're growing
i've heard grandpa Dan Hopkins
prayin' in Arikara
i smelled & tasted the fry bread
i saw the children play
i saw the hours go by
one day and not too soon
we'll live with our people
and the buffalo will run free
